What would you do if you found a cold dismembered hand?
What would you do if that hand had an expensive ring on one of the fingers?
Peter Mallory has lost everything, his business, his girlfriend, his flat and maybe his mind. He has turned to alcohol to try and forget his problems when he happens across such a find. He keeps the ring and deposits the hand outside his local hospital. This leads him into a gangland underworld where he is being chased, not only by the gang boss, but also the police who want him in connection with a murder.
This dark comedy follows his fortunes as he tries to sell the ring and escape the rival hunting packs.

I found the plot a bit mediocre and occasionally too slow-paced, but the narrator really made the story! Since "The Hand" is told in first-person perspective, we can see the inner workings of Peter Mallory's strange (and often drunken) mind. It's easy to relate with him, but question his thoughts and actions at the same time. The story frequently had me laughing out loud, and so I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys black comedy.Product details

Very occasionally you stumble across a new author and find a real gem of a book. The Hand is a rattling good tale. It is funny, well paced and imaginative. The writing style was a joy to read and I felt I really bonded with the hero because of it.
Until the author brings out another work of this nature I shall have to satisfy myself with maybe a re-read or two.
