I'm a novice at this subject as I was diagnosed with Hashimoto just a month ago, I was prescribed to take pills just as described in the book with a comment that autoimmune decease cannot be cured, so I'll have to live on pills for the rest of my days. I started looking for imformation and this book helped me greatly to understand what's going on with me.My wish is that this boook would have a short summary, so you don't have to search for particular piece of fact, like: syptom -> possible cause & necessary tests -> how to address it.
Recommended reading for a start!

This book has been very helpful to me - I have had thyroid issues most of my life and this point has given me some tools that even me endocrinologist had not given me. It will be interesting to see if this approach will help me with some of my thyroid struggles!
This book is good, it gave me almost everything I wanted, but it lost me somewhere around the middle. However, it gave me enough to know I needed to go to my Naturopath for treatment.
A great resource for anyone with thyroid-related issues. This book rightfully challenges the flawed conventional wisdom that thyroid problems should necessitate life-long dependency on prescription synthetic thyroid hormone. This book teaches how multi-faceted thyroid issues are and the natural ways to address them.
It was too formulaic and not enough in depth discussion of how one deals with it. On the positive side there was a great deal of research for people wanting to know more about the medical findings about this condition. But I am still looking for a workaday book, a kind of Thyroid malfunction for Dummies, to help consider whether a friend should try lifestyle changes and / or go to the doctor for more ideas about therapy.
This book was an easy to understand read despite some of the technical information. It was very informative and a very good source of information to begin learning about how the body works and how to support it. It is a helpful book that you can access easily. If you are looking for basic information this would be a good choice.
Not the book I was looking for. It might be helpful if you aren't taking medication, but I was looking for something to tell me how to get off medication.
For the first time I have hope that I can conquer my thyroid issues....all because I read this book and got the proper information.The Thyroid Alternative was a breath of fresh air after reading and glossing through books and documents that did not make sense to me.Dr.Hedberg wrote this book in a way that is informative but not over your head....he freely shares so much knowledge and I got a little irritated at the idea that my primary healthcare practitioner did not tell me all this.The book is a must read for those with thyroid problems or even immune issues like Hoshimoto's disease.In a time when time is money...I really appreciated the fact that after reading this book I emailed Dr.Hedberg and he wrote back a few times...the least I could do is write a review...Enjoy....learn and be empowered....
