Eighty years ago a young man disappeared in the Utah wilderness. A large manhunt followed, but all they turned up was his last camp and a couple of burros. Pledge to the Wind The Legend of Everett Ruess follows the adventures of Everett Ruess from his appearance in the Southwest in 1931, when he was only 17, until his disappearance in 1934, shortly before he turned 21. Theories abound as to what may have happened to him drowned crossing the Colorado River, bit by a rattlesnake, fell off a cliff while trying to reach a ruin, killed by an Indian who thought he was a witch, shot by a rancher, etc. There are others who believe he didn't die at all and that the Navajo or the Hopi are hiding him. In this compelling narrative, Robert Louis DeMayo explores what might have happened.

Pledge to the Wind The Legend of Everett Ruess (Audible Audio Edition) Robert Louis DeMayo Jim Tedder Wayward Publishing Books

Everett Ruess walked into the desert a young artist and traveler, and emerged a legend. He packed more into his 20 years than most of us do in a lifetime. In “Pledge to the Wind” Mr. DeMayo skillfully mixes biographical accounts and Everett’s own writings with a compelling story of a man's journey to became part of the land he loved so much. The descriptions of the land he saw and wrote about are vivid, and capture his yearning to see more. Note to the reader - pay attention to the dates on each chapter's introduction to avoid confusion. Great book!

Again another book by Robert that just drew me into it. When I first started this book I wasn't sure that I would find this book as fulfilling as some of his others because it wasn't a personal journey of his but writing of Everett''s journey. Also I liked his books of his travels because I felt like I was living them through him as he described everything so well that you felt that you were in the journey. I was very surprised that he did the same with this book. I would swear that he was Everett, I felt like I was there through the whole journey. I had never heard of Everett Ruess before I started this book but now I want to know more.
Again Robert has such a way with words that make you feel like you are there and you imagine that you can actually feel, taste, and smell what Everett does.
Again thank you Robert for taking me on an amazing journey .
Great read.
I feel Everest is with his Navajo woman and living his dream, both growing old and enjoying the beauty and peace of the wilderness. One of the nice feature of the book is it allows one to draw their own conclusion of Everett's fate.
Well written and nice size fonts and spacing for border. Somewhat romantic.
Pledge with the wind confirms the saying that 'all whom wander are not lost'. The portrayal of Everett Russ is a beautiful poetic adventure. We feel the urge he has to be at one with nature and how this becomes his true resting place and spiritual home. A beautiful tale of a young magnificent mans life that any traveller, explorer will relate to and enjoy.
I have always been fascinated by Everett Ruess since reading about him in John Krakauer's book" Into the Wild".
I was very happy when I found out that Rob de Mayo was going to be writing the story of Ruess in "Pledge to the Wind" . I've always enjoyed Rob's detailed books on places less traveled by people more travelled. He's a great writer and I look forward to many more tales.
Another winner by Rob DeMayo! This is one of the most interesting books on Everett Ruess I've read. Rob takes a very interesting and intriguing subject and makes him come alive with all the drama and mystery intact. Brilliant!
